Another year, another battalion of robots. They come formatted in squads, or platoons. But what matters is that students have been demonstrating more and more and more capabilities to quickly master Processing! Here's another battalion:
The best robots ever?
Just a quick post to praise the two Classes of LSI of 2020. Not deserving of the classes of previous years, this year I saw absolutely fantastic robots with an exploration of excellent graphic primitives. The thematic variety too. From Star Wars (BB-8) to Futurama, through Disney's Big Hero 6 (Baymax) and Transformers (Optimus Prime).… Continue reading The best robots ever?
A small squadron of lego heads
Today the LSI class was dedicated to Variables, Cycles, and Conditions. You still gave to squeeze a random() very fast at the end. After (re)seeing some of the students’ homework —I have to admit that the results are increasingly more spectacular (a new post soon on this)—, we’ve proceeded to explore the first concepts of… Continue reading A small squadron of lego heads
Robot Company
After the first week has passed —I’m curious to see the robots you’ve all made, especially because I’ve seen a “brutal” Robocop today afternoon, after the Typography class!. So, the first results of the code drawings have started arriving and we will see a few tomorrow!
20 Robots for 2020
2020 arrived and started another year of LSI. The first lesson was dedicated to Processing Community Day. A fantastic day, with two workshops (P5 and Max), a penousal machado conference and an Open Talks session. It's been 12 hours super-filled, but very good! But the "vacation" is short-lived. In this first lesson we have already… Continue reading 20 Robots for 2020
Visual references to P3: Dynamic Typography
Here are some references of authors and projects to help find and deepen the development of ideas for the final project of LSI19: Dynamic Typography. In the past — as in the processing training manual and on the author and artist references page —several examples have been collected. Almost all of them have relevant work,… Continue reading Visual references to P3: Dynamic Typography
Amazing abstract graphics everywhere
No matter how quick, each session on Instagram is an amazing discovery & inspiration process. Just check out this work I wonder if it is possible for some (one?) of my students to design a sound sequencer (the next assignment) using this kind of language?
Circle of Robots
Like last year, in the transition between static mode and processing dynamic mode, students were challenged to pass their robots to a parameterizing/ada function and create robot circles around the cursor.
Image rasterization
After the robots, LSI's first project is the creation of a generative portrait. The idea is to use data from a bitmap image (color values) as a numeric matrix to interpret, or better feed a custom generative algorithm to reproduce an "identifiable" portrait of an author, artist, or computer history designer Graphics.
