With the COVID-19 outbreak spreading, UP implemented the contingency plan. This means the suspension of face-to-face classes and substitution for moments/distance classes.
During the morning session (now available online) and during the afternoon too (video coming soon) the exercise and discussion questions were very cool.
Today, the class was on a webinar basis at Collibri-Zoom. Despite the initial hesitation and the "hiccups" of software and hardware typical of a solution with this scale/context, it went very well. I met or revisited the work of spectacular authors selected by students, such as Bridget Riley.
We were seeing trigonometry (with the design of a spiral for Matilde with the sine, the cosine and the spectacular atan2) from the works of Vera Molnar and the normalization of values of different scales for Vera with the map() function. In fact these doubts are quite advanced and we will address some in the next module, but I am very glad that they have already been put at this stage. Show curiosity and commitment!
One of the functions I've seen many of the students use —and i was curious to know what tutorials they were watching—is resize(). It is quite simple to understand and apparently was very useful for some. I was glad to see you're studying/practicing.
This allows you to manipulate the dimension (resampling) of the image in real time. What is top to be able to change the scale/resolution/accuracy of the new portrait.
We also had to enjoy the work of Manfred Mohr, about Sofia's doubts.

Marcel's work was also discussed at the design strategy level. It's going to be very similar to what we did with Caggianello, but… with a "non-repeating" algorithm of positions. Let's see what comes up next week.
One of the most joyful gave me, was to see (and play with) the doubt of Maria Júlia from the work of Horacio Garcia-Rossi. We've been trying to figure out the algorithm of his work. Although not fully finished, in the few minutes we were back from the concept we sketched something very close … I felt like finishing. Maybe next year, or at the end of the semester.
It's amazing how a small set of rules trigger such an "emergency". These artists are exceptional indeed!
Another author discussed was Giorgia Lupi. It uses images in previews. Will this be a job with thousands of PNGs?
